Gahmen proposed recently that non-citizens and people with bigger cars (ie. bigger engine capacities) will be paying the full retail price of petroleum per litre (RM2.10) in a few months' time. Of course to make sure that some Malaysians are paying RM1.80 per litre at the petrol pump, they'll need to show their MyKad.
I've nothing against Singaporeans and Thais paying the full price for petrol (don't get me started on the potential market for fake MyKads...) - I fully believe that they should be paying the damn RM2.10; if Singaporeans are rich enough to drive to Malaysia and shop at OUR IKEA store instead of theirs, screw them. Same goes for the well-off Thais driving around the Valley with their Thai license plates.
Of course they could always drive cars with Malaysian plates, but that's not enough.
As for the "bigger" car thing - as it is I'm already paying RM100 - RM120 for a fuel tank in the old Jeep (which I think it's 2,500 cc engine which still runs, but could be better). If I had to pump petrol on a weekly basis, I'd cry already, but I don't. Not at the moment, anyway. They might not have defined it yet (I'm guessing they're waiting for the nation's response to this), but I'm pretty sure I won't be spared in any case.
