TV3 Raya ad brouhaha

For the record, I only saw that controversial Raya ad on YouTube ONCE.

If you're like some people I know and don't want to look it up on YouTube, the gist of the ad is basically that it's an old man in a FLYING trishaw picking up little kids to see the country's iconic landmarks and tried to incorporate the other major religions to celebrate Hari Raya into a minute-long TV spot.

Apart from me thinking that the old guy and the flying trishaw reminds me of Santa Claus and his sleigh... I thought it was just liddat lah. I say angmos have better ads in general because their advertising standards are not terribly strict. Don't get me started on the no-armpit rule they have here.

Frankly, I don't get the noise about it - I just think the people that complained just want to kecoh lebih only. And people are overthinking these things :P

The backlash has been so terrible they had to pull it out and make an apology... to who, exactly?

This is what happens when Yasmin Ahmad is no longer around for these things. Sheesh.
