3 Things That Piss Me Off at Book Clearance Sales

One of the things I like about my hometown of PJ are the book clearance sales - they are a reason why I haven't really paid retail price for books for ages. But every time I go to one of these things, I notice the same behaviours that really piss me off and here they are - the rest of you are on notice.
  1. Small kids and strollers - Please don't bring them.

Look - small children are a nuisance at warehouse sales in general, not just the book related ones. I don't think being jostled around by strangers or the noise, the dust and the crowds is their cup of tea. I blame the parents. Small children also take up space - I must have bumped or knocked into at least one kid from time to time and I probably got the stink eye from the parent, but never noticed. For fucks' sake, also don't bring the damn strollers with you to the sale area, they're a bigger waste of space than the kids. Leave them in the car.

If you want to bring your young kids, either keep them by your side or else just leave them at home - not just for their sake, but for everyone else's.

  2. Don't put your haul on the other books on display.

I know you have a shit load of books that you want to buy and you don't want to put them on the ground while you keep on browsing cos they might get (gawdforbid) DUST on them, but the rest of us are browsing too, you douchebags - and we might want to buy those books that you're denying us visual of and damaging them when you do that.

So take the box/basket/bag of books off the other books on the table/floor and put it by your feet. Kick the box around if you have to, they don't feel anything.

  3. Slow pokes.

You might recognise these people: you're eyeballing titles, and suddenly the person in front of you stopped moving and picks up a book, reading not just the back cover, but also at least a few chapters before finally deciding to take it. These people are slowing you down.

If you cannot decide whether to get the book, just step aside while you're deliberating and let the rest of us keep going.
Don't blame me if I get all passive-aggressive if you piss me off at a book sale - you've been warned.
