The Malaysian Starbucks Card in Malaysia is already out in stores this week.
I haven't been anywhere near a Starbucks to check them out, let alone get one. I hear online that a lot of people are having problems with the online registration.
Here's what is known about the Starbucks Card (promotions, etc) so far, based on the Starbucks Malaysia Facebook page, etc:
- I heard there are designs to choose from, which is a good thing.
- Card is RM20 (which is a lot; but on par in terms of exchange rate: Singapore's is S$10 (RM25) and Taiwan's is NTD100 (RM11)). Whether it's preloaded or not, I am not sure.
- You get a card caddy if you reload another RM100 into the card. Colour choice: black, red and beige. Also a bit expensive for one, let alone if you're a crazy collector and want all three :P Last I heard, you can't get it just by buying five RM20 cards, you have to put RM100 in ONE card.
- Complimentary grande beverage with every purchase of "ANY 10 handcrafted beverages, ANY tumbler, or ANY whole cake."
The launch party is happening at the Curve store THIS FRIDAY (11/11/11) at 7 p.m. First 100 people in line get a free preloaded card. I already see it's not going to be easy because the first 100 people could easily be students (all the time in the world) or office workers (assuming they get off work between 5 - 7 p.m. or sooner) who work nearby and also retirees (I kid you not), so chances of going there specifically for the free card to next to none. I guess this is where you gotta have faith (to quote George Michael :P) and hope for the best.
I wonder if I can get the card, etc (2012 planner is also out, retail price RM88) at the second home store and collect ONECARD points instead...might have to call the store to enquire and clarify before going over.
