This year Chinese New Year is on the same day as Valentine's Day. That fact kept coming and going in my head, since I don't celebrate the latter. (Come to think of it, I don't quite celebrate the former, too...)
On one hand, if you're Chinese - does this mean that you get to skip out on Valentine's Day celebrations on account that family means more than your Valentine's Day date (in theory, anyway - unless it's anything like my CNY celebrations on the first day where nothing happens at night..)?
But that won't stop restaurants, florists, confectioners, etc from attempting to gouge people with overpriced V Day shit because there's the rest of the non-Chinese population. Or whoever else that's left once the mass exodus out of town starts the Friday or Saturday before..
I wonder if the restaurants would still be as crowded as it would've been if it was any other Valentine's Day..?
