Rizal van Geyzel - Halallujah

Until this show was announced, I was like, "hang on, Rizal hasn't done his own hour yet ah?" I mean, it's easy to be distracted by other comics who seem to generate new material annually (IYKYK), produce their own shows, etc.... it's kinda mind blowing that it hasn't happened sooner.

Bought a ticket kinda late (which didn't really matter cos there were plenty of seats left, which I kind of feel bad for/about), only to find that of course they were gonna be moving people closer to the stage so that it would be less sad. Great if you paid for cheaper seats, but still. Got moved up to an empty seat next to this white guy who was about as surprised about it as I was. But mostly I feel a little bad cos I had a soy garlic fried chicken snack at the Korean Grocer downstairs before I headed upstairs.

Going in, I wasn't sure if there was gonna be an opening act, but I'm glad that Farid Azmeir was there... mostly because I haven't seen him perform (that's on me) and I didn't see the season of Maharaja Lawak Mega where he was part of a multiracial team called 3 Otak (with Phoon Chi Ho and Prakash Daniel). (To be fair, I haven't seen a lick of Maharaja Lawak AT ALL ever). The mixed language 10 minute set was kinda funny. Not exactly clean five material, but ok lah

Rizal went for over an hour, which can be long for Friday night crowd, but hey. If you've seen him host and/or headline (I mean, if you're a comic running a comedy club..), it's mostly bits and pieces of stuff he's said on stage, over the years, just in long form.

NB.
  • After having been to PJPAC several times now, at least now I know the best place to park and what my limitations are. By that I mean that I know I can't possibly waddle over to the mall and back without breaking a sweat, that it's not exactly a stone's throw... unless you're Flash.
