Sleep... or lack of it.

Sorry, filler post. Happy Thursday. This was a meme I ripped off someone else, but I'm in no mood to inflict this on anyone else, so happy reading.

How do you sleep at night?

Is your sleep affected by the national angst? Do you drop off easily, as you always did? Or does it take a while to get to sleep?

No, my sleep is not affected by national angst? What is this national angst of which you speaketh of?

No, my sleep is mostly affected by my own personal angsts, or just nagging ideas and thoughts floating in my head - ideas for blog posts, etc.

What strategies, if needed, do you use to get to sleep?

Pills? Sheep? Late night television show? And/or…?

Not going to bed until I can't keep my eyes open any more. But yeah, TV does it for me - I usually watch TV on the bed and would usually switch it off right before going off to sleep.

What strategies do you have to get back to sleep?

I don't - if I'm not too awake to start, it's no biggie.

Are your dreams affected?

Are they more anxious than before? Do they wake you up in a sweat? Or are they peaceful, innocent, undisturbed by the general malaise?

People in my life appear in my dreams, which makes them weirder than they already are by nature. To get out of them I usually just wake up. Fortunately, once I do go back to sleep there are no sequels.

25 Random Things

Like most outbreaks, it's only a matter of time before it comes my way... so here. This is also on Facebook, but I needed filler. So enjoy.

Rules: Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you.

(To do this, go to "notes" under tabs on your profile page, paste these instructions in the body of the note, type your 25 random things, tag 25 people (in the right hand corner of the app) then click publish.)

1. I have a blog. I have no problems with anyone reading it, it's on my profile. Whether anyone cares to read it is out of my hands.

2. I've read Vikas Swarup's Q&A a couple of years before Slumdog Millionaire the movie came out and has since been republished as such. Same goes for The Secret Life of Bees and Stormbreaker, among some others.

3. I would like to have a car like KITT so that I could sleep behind the wheel while it does the driving in traffic jams. Then again, it could always recalculate the route or just turbo boost over the jam, haha...

4. I like watching talk shows (daytime or late night), but I mostly watch the monologue and sketch. It depends on who was on that day.

5. I spend my weekends online catching up on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report.

6. I was on Twitter long before Stephen Fry and Jonathan Ross gave it its 5 minutes of fame on the latter's show and the numbers grew like nuts.

7. I can't stand to watch Desperate Housewives and Heroes anymore.

8. I miss Boston Legal and Dirty Sexy Money.

9. I still get a kick out of seeing people's faces when they hear me speak Mandarin for the first time in their presence.

10. I hate talking on the phone if I don't have to, so excuse me if I prefer text messaging or email.

11. I know I shouldn't swear so much, but I keep thinking about that episode of Malcolm in the Middle where Malcolm got a stomach ulcer from being so unnaturally nice to people, so...

12. Some of my favourite podcasts : This American Life, Buzz Out Loud, Diggnation and TWiT.tv's Net@Night and Munchcast.

13. I can't believe I'm only halfway through this.

14. I have a copy of the Starbucks Green Apron book and coffee passport.

15. The only reason I'm still single is because people like me don't date, much less have relationships.

16. I see a life of singledom for myself.

17. I hate outdoor jogging. Mall walking is more my sport :p

18. I refuse to pay RM10-12 for a movie. However, you can find me at 1U's TGV some Wednesday nights cos it's RM6.

19. I don't get R&B and hip-hop.

20. I always want to go to Glastonbury, but now I think I'm not cut out for it anymore.

21. I hate the travelling part of travelling - the lines, planes, people, etc.

22. I'm not the greatest traveller.

23. If I were to settle down, I would rather elope than to go through the parade that is the typical Chinese wedding. Urgh.

24. I don't get organised religion.

25. The only self-help book I think people should read is Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People. Everything else is rubbish. *Said ala Simon Cowell*

Another meme/tag/whatever you care to call it

Got tagged by Hathyia, which is just as well because I've not much else to blog about anyway.

1. Have you ever own a bantal busuk or anything equivalent?
Equivalent, I guess...

2. How old were you when you owned it?
Since kindergarten

Mostly in my room, at night.

5. Did it smell nice or bad?
Don't know

6. Did it have any patterns on it?

8. Why do like it?
It's not a typical bolster-type bolster.

9. Could you live without it?

10. How is the condition of it now?
Dirtier (cos tak cuci) - don't want to smell it, really... but i remember sunning it and perhaps spraying Febreeze...

11. What were the best memories of you and your bantal or anything equivalent?
No... But I know someone who brought theirs halfway around the world and would dare us to smell it whenever we made fun of it.

Reading related meme/tag

Another tag/meme thing that I stole from yet another blog cos I got nothing else really.

Do you remember how you developed a love for reading?

I really can’t remember…. *thinks some more* No, I can’t. I can’t remember much of my childhood and school years – they’re pretty much repressed now and they’ll stay that way.

What are some books you read as a child?

The usual, I guess – Enid Blyton, the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys... and the occasional abridged classic.

What is your favourite genre?

Contemporary fiction lah - not a huge fan of classics nor would I read sci fi.

Do you have a favourite novel?

Jeffrey Eugenides’s sophomore epic novel, Middlesex. That’s one book I don’t mind Hollywood adapt into a movie.

Where do you usually read?

Work or home. Tried Starbucks once, but it’s too cold to read properly. So much for their "third place" idea :P

When do you usually read?

During my lunch break… or when there’s no internet connection.

Do you usually have more than one book you are reading at a time?

Yes. What bibliophile doesn’t?

Do you read non-fiction in a different way or place than you read fiction?

I don’t think so. I might pay more attention to what’s being said and make note of it, but way or place? Doubt it lah.

Do you buy most of the books you read, or borrow them, or check them out of the library?

Used to borrow them out of the library or from people, but these days with Payless Books and BookXcess, and various book clearance sales all over the place, I don’t mind buying as long as it’s not at full retail price. But that's just books that are on my wishlist...

Do you keep most of the books you buy?

Yes – the rest I trade or release via Bookcrossing where they’re marked as “AVL” (Available).

If you have children, what are some of the favourite books you have shared with them? Were they some of the same ones you read as a child?

No kids, so this question is not applicable. But hypothetically, I probably would have to scout around for really kid-friendly books and not the crap that’s in bookstores these days.

Do you keep a TBR (to be read) list?

I’ve a perpetually growing TBR stack, but not as high a stack of books I’m getting rid of.

What’s next?

Much as I would like to crack that last Ben Elton that I’ve not read, but I don’t know for sure.

What books would you like to reread?

Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird. I only re-read when I don’t remember what it’s about anymore or when I need to find the line or paragraph that amused me.

Who are your favourite authors?
  • Scott Adams
  • Anthony Bourdain
  • Roald Dahl
  • Chuck Palahniuk
  • Mary Roach
  • George Carlin
  • Ben Elton
  • Sue Townsend
It's open to whoever wants to do it.

Just because I'm bored.

1. What is the show you hope to watch now?
Hmm... waay too many at the moment: 21, The Other Boleyn Girl, Get Smart...

2. Given the chance, what special ability/power would you like to have?
To Apparate and Disapparate - no worries about traffic jams and vehicular crashes. Just the splinching maybe, but it's more eco-friendly mah, right?

3. What do you think of your brother(s)/sister(s)?
He's alright - my live-in tech support, haha.

4. Where is the place that you want to go the most?
England - my personal Mecca.

5. If you can have 1 dream to come true, what would it be?
Having a job where I don't have to deal with assholes.

6. Do you believe in seeing a rainbow after the rain?
What's the point of this question?

7. What are you afraid to lose the most now?
My sanity.

8. If you win $1 million, what would you do?
Travel and invest..........??

9. If you meet someone that you love, would you confess to him/her?
Probably not - wouldn't know the difference between love and lust (and the line's pretty thin)....

10. What are the requirements that you wish from your other half??
AH BENGS NEED NOT APPLY - very basic requirement.

11. Do you believe in "forever"?
Not really.

12. Which type of person do you hate the most?
It's a split between assholes, douchebags and the la-la.

13. What is your ambition?
To not have a 9-5 job. Embrace my semi-bohemianism. Be paid to blog and criticise. Be famous blogger bitch or something.

14. If you have fault, would you rather the people around you point out to you or would you rather they keep quiet?
They keep quiet - I bash myself over a lot of things on a regular basis, I don't need anymore help in that department. [Sound a bit between a Catholic and a Presbyterian, don't I?]

15. What do you think is the most important in your life?
Having an internet connection.

16. Are you a shopaholic or not?
Not like Becky Bloomwood, no.

17. What is the thing that you really want now?
Not see some people in my life now.

18. If you have a chance. Which part of your character you would like to change?
Swear less. I guess.

19. Is there anything that you have done which you regret?
Hahahaha.... sure. But I'm not gonna dwell on it.

20. Are you hungry right now?
No - you buying?
