The Bricklayer

First beekeeper, now bricklayer pulak

Okaylah, didn't want to spend too much to watch another less than stellar January release action movie starring another middle-aged white man over the weekend, so I'm glad that I could watch The Bricklayer at the local MBO at midweek prices. I guess I wasn't the only one, cos I wasn't the only one at the 8 p.m. screening. At 1 hour 50 minutes, by the time I got out of the movie, rest of the mall was just closing for the day.

As with other movies of its ilk, I'm just sitting there wondering... how and why did this get greenlit at all? (It's apparently based on a book) How did they get everyone to sign on to this - was it everyone's paycheque movie or something?!

  • A lot of f-bombs - maybe the Censorship Board didn't gaf about this one.
  • I'm guessing the only big names this production could afford was Aaron Eckhart, and (maybe, to an extent) Nina Dobrev, cos everyone else was like, who?!
  • The fight scenes are not for people with motion sickness.
  • A lot of ageist comments, especially towards Nina Dobrev's character. But at least they don't end up in bed together, which is kind of refreshing; dude was more erm, avuncular to her than attracted, which was like, phew.
I would be second screening more if there wasn't another person sat in the same row I was (could've sat ANYWHERE ELSE, it was that empty), that's how blah it was.

If you got nothing else to do and want to get out of the heat...
