Anna

Got a ticket to watch Anna at TGV only because it's the only one-off movie that I wanted to watch that's not a Disney movie. I only just found out that on Mondays, Maybank card holders pay only RM8 for a standard ticket. Between that and also because the next day was a public holiday, there were loads of families there on a Monday night.

Because of allegations against the director, the marketing for this movie has been pulled back by A LOT. I only remembered this movie because someone came on one of the late night shows to promote it. I'm sure it was Luke Evans or something.

TL;DR - it's the same old plot of young, naive girl gets conned/recruited as a spy and the whole movie is her trying to get out of the spy game and still be alive. If that sounds familiar, Red Sparrow cerita sama lah.
  • Because the lead Sasha Luss is a model-turned-actress, they tried to add credibility to this movie by having heavyweight actors like Cilian Murphy, Luke Evans and Helen Mirren in supporting roles. Maybe they just want to work with Luc Besson?
  • Either Luc Besson has a type when it comes to his female leads, or does Sasha Luss remind anyone else of Milla back in the day?
  • Helen Mirren is not the WORST choice to play her handler Olga, since she DOES have Russian ancestry.
  • Luke Evans's Russian accent was pretty funny (maybe I find on screen non native Russian accents funny?). While Cillian Murphy's American accent is not too bad, but aren't there American actors available to play CIA agents?
  • The time cards were an interesting touch, but you know the movie is set some time in the 1980s and 1990s cos the technology.
  • I love me a fun fight choreography, even though I watch them between my fingers cos I'm too eek-ed out by the fake gore. The one where she fights her way out of the KGB kinda reminded of a video game.
  • Hey, I had that seagreen coloured Nokia 3310 too... LOL
  • While I admit I haven't seen a lot of Luc Besson movies, but even I noticed the wink, wink, nudge, nudge to Milla Jovovich (especially the bright red wig)'s character in The Fifth Element
I thought it was okay, this one not so much torture. But if you're looking for no-kid movie, you could watch this but there's pretty limited screenings this week....
