Death on the Nile

I gotta admit, it's been kinda interesting watching them try to promote this star-studded movie, which at first was delayed due to the pandemic, but also Armie Hammer, who's persona non grata these days (Letitia Wright and Russell Brand are also in some trouble, for their stance on the pandemic). My guess is that they're only releasing it now because they already made the movie?

Dunno why I thought catching the 10.30 a.m. screening on a Saturday was a good idea (cheaper yes, but good idea? that one still up for debate). Even for how late I got there (almost 15 minutes past), I still sat through what I felt was a lot of ads. Also found out (or re-remembered) that TGV tickets at Pyramid was more expensive than at the second home. But because I had spent money on the prepaid parking package (RM60 for 15 entries, so it's like RM4 each time, which is a bargain when you consider how much the weekend and holiday parking there is) and I was gonna do some other things after, so ya...

The only way you didn't know what was going to happen is if you've never read the book (or Wikipedia if you don't have a copy of the book lying around). Understandably, they've had to make some changes to the script so there wouldn't be so many characters for viewers to keep track of.

  • NGL, the cold open with WW1 trenches made me go, "Am I watching 1917 again?" Also served as the origin story of the 'tache.
  • That was some sexy ass dancing for 1937? Dunno what's with all the grinding moves..
  • I was also like, Bouc wasn't in the book (was right - it was someone else)...
  • The sight of the 2 eggs in their own egg cups cracked me up.
  • Was nice to see French and Saunders
  • I don't think I've ever seen Russell Brand with such short hair before.
Frankly, it probably could've been shorter (down to 2 hours flat? Poirot would've loved that LOL), but it was nice to see the aerial shots of Egypt in a time when people can't travel freely. It was fine, I guess. No idea if there's gonna be another one after this, but I hope they find less problematic people next time around.
