Another year, another middling (and ultimately forgettable) Liam Neeson movie - Retribution, which is the latest remake of the Spanish movie that came out back in 2015...
You know it's one of those movies cos I only paid RM10 to watch in the middle of the week with several other people in the room, emphasis on SEVERAL. Rushed like mad to make the 7.20 p.m. screening and was only some minutes late, cos it was only the opening credits (unless there was a cold open).
When the trailer came out, it came across like Speed, but waaayyy older.
What can I say about this other than it's a pretty standard Liam Neeson hostage drama where he's a dad who's life and family is threatened who may or may not have a certain set of skills lor. Should've guessed that the villain of the piece to be the only other name I knew of (Matthew Modine), aka the SVU formula.
If nothing else, this movie has him mostly confined to his car and not doing dangerous stunts, except maybe towards the end, and even then I'm pretty sure that it wasn't even him.
This is honestly giving me TV movie vibes, or at least might show up on Astro (Cinemax) months down the road. Or a movie you'd watch in a hotel room years later.
Or a 90 minute Mercedes ad.
If this was any longer, I might've flipped the proverbial table. I rather pay RM10 to watch this than regular movie ticket prices these days.
The only plus side to this movie is that it was only 90 minutes long. It wasn't even 9 p.m. when I left the cineplex LOL
My only takeaway from this movie is that he's never gonna have to drive the kids to school ever again LOL
PS. The reviews on IMDb are a bit the brutal, but in a similar vein to what I've been going on about.
