SUCKIEST birthday ever - JB trip pt. 1

We left home early Saturday morning as we had a pre-wedding gathering thing to attend that evening. So after a half hour delay (waiting for mum's eldest sister to get back from buying breakfast), we left KL. Couple of hours later, we stopped by this shop in Tangkak (Johore; at dad's insistence) for beef noodle soup. Shop wasn't crowded as it was only about 11 something at the time.

The question of why the rest of us have never heard of it before was answered when I caught a glimpse of the newpaper cuttings on the wall showed that it's mostly in the Chinese papers. No wonder lah.

After brunch, we stopped by this shop to buy some tambun kuih. I found it a little disturbing that the shop is next to a place that supplies pesticides.

We finally got into JB town and checked into Mutiara Hotel, where the wedding dinner the next night was gonna be at. As we still had some time before the thing, we (exception of Dad) decided to trawl the mall (Holiday Plaza) next door. Most Ah Beng-infested place I've ever been in. There's a repetition of shops: pirated DVDs (cheap but choice is limited to non-English drama series), shoes, clothes which won't be out of place in Sungei Wang, fake designer stuff and console games (pirated lah).

We then got ready with (in theory) plenty of time to get there. VERY LONG STORY SHORT, we were lost for over an hour (nearly two) looking for the groom's new crib (two and half storey corner, okay lah); we were like the last to get there, were hungry like nuts, tempers were short and there was no more food (what the fuck). My mum and aunt were upset at the groom's mother for the crappy giving of directions. Needless to say, the cloud of gloom was over me the entire night.

And to top off the night, just about everyone who has to go back into town got caught in this HORRENDOUS traffic jam that lasted over an hour. Why?

  • 2 cars stalled in the right lane
  • Road works
  • Bottleneck traffic - 3 of the 4 lanes diverted so that they could put up overhead road signs
  • A police road block
As far as birthdays go, this one BLOWS.

Next year, I'm not leaving the house.

It doesn't help that I already detest travelling.

More later when I got the mood and the time.
