Iron Chef America

(Based on my compare and contrast post on both Iron Chef and Iron Chef America).

I started downloading and watching Iron Chef America:The Series (ICA) again when I finally found the free-access torrents for some of the battles from the last season that I wanted to watch (Mario Batali vs Jamie Oliver) and to see the new Iron Chef Michael Symon in action.

What I like about Iron Chef America:
-
At least I know or recognise some of the judges that comes and goes: they've had Martin Yan and Ted Allen before...
- There's a female Iron Chef (
Cat Cora)
- The floor reporter's Thirsty Traveller
Kevin Brauch; ICA's hosted by Alton Brown.
- The ice cream maker, which has been (mis)used so much
on the show that it's been dubbed the "ice cream maker of doom"
- I admit that it's pretty campy at times: there's sound effects every time the Chairman even turns his head to face the camera is there.

What I don't really like about
Iron Chef America
:
- Some of the "secret" ingredients have been really common - chicken, mint, olives...
- Not that I really don't like this... it's just that the chefs have to come up with 5 dishes. Not that they mention that it's has to be the typical starter, appetizer, main, and dessert.

Other notes:

- Masaharu Morimoto in both Iron Chef and ICA.

- What the heck is allez cuisine, anyway? I have no idea what the heck what both Chairmen were saying until I switched on the captioning (subtitles)
.
- The use of the word "theme" and "secret" ingredients in both shows, which makes a world of a difference, in my opinion. Or semantics.
- If the challenger actually wants to WIN, challenging Mario Batali wouldn't help. But if they beat the guy, there's the bragging rights.
- There are currently five Iron Chefs, chef Michael Symon (chef and owner of Lola in Cleveland, OH and winner of the miniseries The Next Iron Chef), being the new kid on the block.
