Went with friend fyee (who I note, was nice enough to drive). Left around 11 something. Probably took about half an hour just to go in as the traffic was terrible after the bridge over the Federal Highway.
Here's the lowdown on this Big Bad Wolf book sale - take heed.
- Traffic going in was terrible! Please take public transport if you can help it. If today was bad, I'm sure it'll be worse the next few days.
- Really long line to pay. There's about 8 - 10 counters, so it wasn't THAT bad. But it took me nearly an hour just to line up.
- Here's a tip: Start lining up when you walk in - you'll eventually see everything because the line was so serpentine.
- Find the tall guy carrying a bright green "Queue Starts Here" sign.
- Bring cash. Like some other people have noted, there were shout outs for cash payment, so you could move a lot faster if you do.
- Don't sort your haul at the counter - sort it when you're lining up, PLEASE: there was this uncle who was taking his own sweet time sorting his load and some of the staff was grumbling about it. Don't be an asshole.
- For fuck's sake, there's no room for trolleys, baskets and prams after noon. DON'T BRING THEM.
Personal thoughts:
- Selection was pretty meh, but that's just me.
- I did like that they sorted the books by genre, and hung signs above the tables. But that would've gone to rot by the end of the day.
- Found myself basically lining up for three other people, including fyee's mum and sister (who left an hour earlier, but only started lining up to pay when I was about 1/3 of the way). Given how other people are lining up for their friends and/or family, oh well.
- I only spent RM46 (there were a couple of RM3 books), which was not a bad thing for me, given that I still got quite a few books to finish...
- Since I can't be arsed to type out what I got, check out the picture below.
- Thought of getting the Martha Stewart cookbook (which was only RM20, but I don't think they'll go anywhere so I think you could get one if you went later), but dumped it in the end - I wanted the housekeeping book, haha.
To everyone else going over the weekend, have fun! Don't say I didn't warn you.
