Free massage at Amante Nail Spa & Body Care, Aman Suria

Finally used one of the free, hour-long back massage vouchers and called up the Amante Nail Spa & Body Care branch in Aman Suria (the closest one to me) and got an appointment at 1.30 p.m. It's a few doors down from Kayu Nasi Kandar, so it wasn't hard finding the place. (Though I hated rushing through my maggi goreng and teh o ais limau because I had less than 15 minutes to eat. Oh well.)

When you walk in, they'll tell you to leave your slippers at the shoe racks at the bottom of the stairs. The manager (Mandy) did ask if I wanted to add another 30 or 60 minutes to the massage as I was told that it wouldn't be enough (of course they would say that). I told them nicely that I would just settle with the free hour and see how that goes.

The rooms were all upstairs and they had a red carpet on the stairs up, which must make people feel a bit like celebs to a point. The woman who massaged me was a short, stout Malay woman from Kelantan who showed me to a candle-lit room, told me to strip and there was a paper thong undies to cover up (in the broadest sense of the word).

So I was on my stomach for the first half and she did my legs, back and shoulders. It was little hard for me to relax because
  • I'm already pretty ticklish to start with
  • It was a little painful, it being my first time and all

  • Some woman's phone went off, and other distracting noises in that vein since there was only a curtain separating me and someone else next door
I guess I should be glad that I didn't get stuck with some Chinese speaking chick because from what I could hear, the masseuse next door sounded like she's from mainland China.

Anyhow, she asked me to get on my back and then did a series of buang lemak moves on my legs, stomach and arms. Which I had to admit, smart a little but that's just me - I don't any skin and bones chick could go through that without any more pain that I had. I don't think an hour (or less) is enough to undo the knots in my shoulders that have been there for years. D'oh.

I thought it was just gonna be a strictly back massage, not a full body one, so I'm not one to complain. Though everyone there sounded surprised when I mentioned that it was my first massage ever. The masseuse was mildly amused (to say the least) and told me that it would be better after a few more times.

I guess the only people that I wouldn't recommend this to would be the very-skinny or the very body conscious.

When I got dressed again and went back downstairs, I was given a cup of ginger tea (methinks) and that was when they tried to sell me some more services. Because it was my first time there, Evon (the chick who was doing the hard sell) told me I could get another service at half price. Didn't buy a package but I did pay for half priced waxing session which I can use another day.

I had three more vouchers to that place I can never use myself, so Mum took the other massage voucher and made an appointment for herself after an (unnecessarily) long car ride back from Gombak with Dad for a wedding lunch.

So I'm now down to two vouchers for free 60 minute creative spa manicures (worth RM58).
