Guinness St Patrick's Day celebration at 1U

Went to 1U Friday night for a couple of things - one was to collect the free samples from the Clinique counters and I wanted to go kaypoh Guinness's St Patrick's Day celebration which was held outside (Central Park) the new wing. If I couldn't get the booze, I could always check out the comedy, being dished out by Douglas Lim, Jenhan and Kavin Jayaram, emceed by Andrew Netto.

So I walked around outside a little bit, saw the cute balloon sculptures and the band on stage was performing songs by Irish bands, like U2's With or Without You, and that famous Chumbawamba tune...

Missed the free pint o' Guinness that ONECARD members are supposed to be able to claim (members can redeeem up to 3 pints) - apparently it was "completely redeemed". Sad... never had one before and I wanted to try, too. Oh well, I guess there's always next year... Comforted myself with juice and a free wheatgrass shot instead. What I didn't miss was red-faced Chinese people sipping on their Guinness, eating and doing their thing. There were food stalls also, but didn't bother checking them out since I already had dinner. The merch stall was interesting (there were tee shirts, posters, and the funny felt hats) but I didn't get anything.

Found the Comedy Lounge on one end of the event - it was a nicely covered and air-conditioned tent with black walls and a white top (remind you of anything?) which was a relief from the weather outside. The tent was almost full, but I managed to find a seat anyway cos there are a few single seats in the audience. I was a little early for the second set (since I obviously missed the first set at 7 p.m.) at 8.30 p.m., but the opening act Kavin Jayaram didn't come on until 8.45 p.m. or closer to 9 p.m. thereabouts. If nothing else, his brief opening set was not bad lah. I stayed to hear what Douglas has to say and left when I felt that he was starting his "black people are cooler than Chinese people" bit. If you know it, you know what I mean. His set up to that point was quite funny and much as I would've like to stay on, but I had stuff to do. Funnily enough, there was only ONE Irish guy in the audience at the time.
