MACC: Internal Affairs

I almost forgot that I'm finally watching MACC: Internal Affairs on the first night of the run - it's been that long since I bought my ticket.
If you came early - mostly because it's free seating and if you don't want last pick - they were showing a video loop of anti-promos and other promo trailers and videos for the show at an attempt at reverse psychology. If you've seen the poster, it's reminiscent of the Infernal Affairs trilogy that Scorsese later won an Oscar for with his remake, The Departed. Neither of which I have ever seen, so whatevs.

The one anti-promo that got the most laughs was one of Kavin Jayaram speaking Cantonese, telling people not to see the show. Apparently it's okay to laugh when a person of a different skin colour speaks a Chinese dialect. Some of it sounds a little off, but otherwise it was pretty convincing... I guess :p

Being there early, I saw the loop twice before a scene in Infernal Affairs with Andy Lau, Tony Leung and a rooftop. Which was then promptly spoofed by the three flers on the PJLA roof (I'm guessing) which also served as a no recording/turn off all phones reminder.

The show might've sold out, but I had an empty seat next to me. I'm not complaining.

Chi Ho came out with his 15 minutes about being Chinese in Shah Alam and about how shitty Proton cars are. I had tears of laughter down my face.

Jenhan came on stage with Mickey Mouse sneakers (that you must see to believe), but his bit about gestural punctuation (eg. the air quotes gesture) left me feeling meh because I use air quotes. However, the rest of the set was hilarious.

Douglas came on stage kicking boards with the other telco logos spray painted on, which was their nod to their sponsor, Celcom and their major plug of the night. I'm impressed that he didn't tear his nice dress pants doing it at his age :P. And he was his usual funny self - jabs at everyone dead or alive, Kancil drivers, etc and he closed it with a spoof of Justin Bieber's Baby (another song I usually avoid on the radio) called Babi, an ode to pork. Freaking hilarious, but no one was singing along to it.

There was also a brief Apple plug when Douglas manages to work in his iPad into the act. No comment :P

With all the comedy, there was also a serious moment at the end when Douglas addressed the audience about the box office brouhaha - apparently someone sent a complaint to Bank Negara about the 2% credit card surcharge from buying show tickets online (see? see?) - and he apologized about it for the investigation being launched upon the PJLA box office, who was, effectively, the ticket merchant on Douglas's behalf.

By the way, the show is sold out for the entire run, so don't expect to get tickets unless they're black market...haha.

Oh, and posters are going for RM5, which will then be signed. No, I didn't hang around to get one.
