Fright Night

Got tickets to the preview screening (it only opens this Thursday), thanks to Nuffnang, which was at the Cathay Cineplex in e@curve last night. In case anyone doesn't know, this is the 21st century remake of the 1985 movie of the same name, Fright Night. I don't know why they bother, and it's under the Disney banner. Just because it's a Disney movie it doesn't mean it's family friendly - you've been warned.

The only reason why I wanted to watch this even though I hate creature movies is I am a sucker (pun not intended) for David Tennant. Despite the guyliner. I appreciated the shirtless minutes in the movie, which is in the following clip... (this is for all the unabashed Tennant fan girls out there).

If I knew that was on the Interwebs and that was about all the vaguely hot Tennant footage there was in the movie, I would've saved myself the trip :P

More after the break!

Okay, that's out of the way - on to the bitching and observations.
  1. Most of the cast look WAAAYYY too old to be playing high school kids, which is my beef with shows and movies with a school setting. Especially Anton Yelchin.
  2. The thought of a vampire named Jerry is pretty hilarious.
  3. So is Jerry the vampire watching The Real Housewives (don't ask me which) after having his fill.
  4. Was I the only one that noticed singer Lisa Loeb as Mrs Lee, Ed's mum? I recognise those glasses anywhere.
  5. I thought it was scary, but then again I have a relatively low tolerance for this sort of thing. And I got over that at some point by telling myself that it wouldn't be so scary if the sound effects were comical and less ominous. I'm also glad that I did not see this in 3D - I already have enough trouble sleeping.
  6. The only saving grace for me personally was David Tennant, even if he did look like Russell Brand when we first see him - also hilariously vulgar. At least his Peter Vincent wasn't trying to be American, unlike in this clip of an American pilot he did which did not get picked up.
  7. Only just found out the girl playing the girlfriend is actually English. Didn't know.
  8. Nope, Colin Farrell doesn't do anything for me.
Conclusion: Not for kids; watch only if you like this sort of thing... and perhaps whoever that's in it.

This "abridged script" is hilarious - a must read.
