The 'rents had a wedding to attend in Kota Bharu and some other things to see and do, they (probably) decided to make a long weekend family vacation out of it, bringing her KL kia (kids) and Gran along.
Left Thursday morning, and after some puking in the car on the way there on my part (which never happens to me, until Mum mentioned that it happened the last time we were driving to Kota Bharu also, over 20 years ago), got to Kota Bharu later in the afternoon after stopping for lunch in Gua Musang. First two nights at Tune Hotel there (thoughts about it for another post). Also met some of Mum's relatives while we were there.
The following morning in Kota Bharu was spent checking out Buddha statues of various sizes and positions in Siamese temples all over Tumpat. Yes, we did see the largest reclining Buddha. And the large sitting Buddha. Also visited some other elderly relations, including a granduncle at his workshop/domicile. The weather was so terribly hot, we were tired by the time we got back to the hotel a little after lunch. I killed an hour or two at KB Mall next door. Was mildly impressed that they had department store cosmetics and fragrance counters like Dior and DKNY. It's a step up above Tropicana City Mall, but still not as swanky as say, KLCC. Me, the sibling and Gran had dinner at the mall next door while the 'rents were at a loud and noisy (to quote Mum) Chinese wedding dinner at the Renaissance. Mostly spent the night in the room catching up on shows on my laptop.
After a failed attempt at breakfast at the infamous White House (so much so, the second cousin don't know about it) and one last visit to the sickly grandaunt (whom I really did not recognise from when she came down to KL with her granddaughter [the aforementioned second cousin] years ago), we departed for Terengganu, where we borong-ed a buttload of keropok, and other treats that you don't see in KL at the market. Spent the night at a homestay that Mum had previously stayed before that she liked. The Wi-Fi here was slightly better. Caught up on more shows.
After breakfast in Kg Cina and briefly met with another of Mum's cousins, took over driving duties (who drives like a maniac) and drove home from Terengganu after some stops along the way - Hai Peng in Kemaman, keropok lekor borong-ing and a toilet break somewhere along the Karak highway. Home before 5.30 p.m.
