New camera, and a whole load of *beep*

Been wanting to get a different camera for the 'rents as (admittedly) the Nikon Coolpix 5600 that I've had since 2005 is pretty crappy by today's standards, and I figured they might need a slightly better camera for the travelling they're going to do in the near future. That, and I don't trust either of them with my Lumix camera to ever let them have it in my absence... not to mention it is beyond them. So a cheap and easy camera it was.

Digital Mall periodically have weekend sales events where certain gadgets are being sold for lower than usual prices. I saw that one of the shops there was selling the Canon Powershot A1200 at a price I could live with, but with these things, I would like to test them in person but also not by myself. So I dragged the sibling along with me. When we got to the shop, the guy told us that the particular model had sold out and instead recommended the Nikon Coolpix L25 which had similar specifications as the Canon, AND they were also selling at the same price. He was also nice enough to deal with our BS the whole time we were there.

We walked around and attempted to compare prices, but long story short, we bought it from the first shop we actually stopped at anyway. Lucky I got the sibling to chip in as well. Camera came with a pouch (or soft case, or whatever you call it), and 4GB SD(XC? HC?) card. Can't complain. It was also within the price range I had in mind.

As we were there close to the lucky draw event (in conjunction with this weekend event) and actually qualified (RM200 minimum purchase), I put my (not literal) hat in the ring after a mad dash back to the shop for a duplicate receipt. My membership had actually lapsed since February and as I had a feeling (there also weren't that many forms in the box), I ponied up the RM10 renewal (because they were checking the cards and I'm not sure if they were looking at expiration dates - I did not want to lose out on a technicality) and not 5 minutes after, my name was called out. I got saddled with the consolation goodie bag (logo polo shirt that's too big on me, a notebook, a Kaspersky trial serial thing), all in yet another reusable tote bag I don't really need. I wanted one of the top three prizes that were up.

Oh well.
