Drove down to Life Centre to see Maz Jobrani do a one-night show at KL Live. I've only ever seen clips of him doing standup on the late night talk shows (notably The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson) and on (occasion) NPR's Wait, Wait... Don't Tell Me! (which I recommend).
Here he is at TED...
I fretted about the parking situation since taking public transport was not an option for safety reasons. Opted to park at Menara MBF, which is just next door. Parking there was RM8 per entry, which I was glad I did because the parking at KL Live was RM10 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. O_o
First impression of Life Centre: A bit dead, not many shops were open except the F&B outlets like Dirty Nelly's and Dr Cafe Coffee. Was there early enough to take pictures before the crowds and went down to Dr Cafe for to cure the munchies (being a fruit cocktail and chicken Caesar salad).

The view from my seat - could be a lot worse |
The show wasn't a total Russell Peters-scale sell out as I noticed that there were empty seats and I probably could've moved to a better seat, but I didn't feel like it... and it wasn't dark enough for me to pull that off, anyway :P The crowd seems to be predominantly foreign and I'm probably one of a handful of yellow-skinned locals there that's not otherwise there for work.
After half an hour of waiting in the seat, the show finally kicked off at 9 p.m. with host Andrew Netto, who did about a short set (10 minutes, tops?) about how easy it was for them to get the permit for this after Russell Peters and Kumar, etc. Rizal Van Geyzel was the opening act and did 10 minutes.
Maz came on, did his thing. He was amused by the sight of our local motorcyclists wearing their jackets backwards and people drinking tea out of plastic bags. I thought he was pandering to the crowd downstairs a little too much for the rest of us to care, but they did pay more for their seats than I did, so oh well. Besides, I would not have appreciated being on the big screen on stage (made me grateful that I was upstairs). But still hilarious.
He also did an after-show signing which I didn't wait all that long for - 15 minutes, tops? I just stood next to the table and waited. The organisers didn't do anything about establishing where the line was going to be, and neither did anyone else. This guy ahead of me had these lovely printed out headshots and pictures for Maz to sign, which I was blown by. I only had him sign my ticket and the flyer, haha.
