Darkest Hour

First talk-y movie of the year: Darkest Hour, with Gary Oldman in a fat suit as Winston Churchill.
During the early days of World War II, the fate of Western Europe hangs on the newly-appointed British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who must decide whether to negotiate with Hitler, or fight on against incredible odds.
I must say, the Churchill makeup on Oldman is pretty seamless. No wonder he had to persuade the makeup guy out of retirement to do this movie. 4 hours of makeup and wardrobe seems easier on his health than him gaining (and losing) all the weight needed to be Churchill.

I admit, I'm not very familiar with this bit of history, but it's not bad. The light moments in the movie were pretty amusing to the rest of the people in the room watching it with me. The "up your bum" bit  was a little funny.

If you're looking to watch something more cerebral than a Marvel or Fast & Furious movie, this is not a bad way to kill a couple of hours.
