Men in Black: International

Despite being critically panned just about everywhere (even BFM) by now, I used my final free movie voucher to watch MIB: International. I enjoyed the first MIB movies back in the day - it was one of those movie franchises that I would stop to watch if it was in reruns on Astro.

I get that some studio bigwig thought it might be a good idea to revive the MIB franchise and to freshen things up by getting MCU's Thor and Valkyrie as the faces of said revival. I just felt that it's too soon after Thor: Ragnarok or Endgame to pair these two up in another movie. But that's just me.

This is basically the gender swapped version of the first Men in Black movie, unlike J who was recruited by K, it was a young black woman who spent 20 years looking to join Men in Black.
  • It was nice to see both Frank the pug and the Worm Guys again after so long, but it wasn't quite enough for me. It's never gonna be enough for me.
  • At least they skipped the whole training montage (and just had O looking at her trainee results) and went straight to her being accepted as a probie.
  • O's "don't get me started" about why the organization was called MEN in Black was humourous.
  • Unlike Will Smith who said it out loud, you know Agent M was thinking "I make this look good" as she was getting suited up. It would've been mildly cheesy if she said it out loud.
  • Chris Hemsworth is just playing another himbo in another movie. (Say what you want, Thor is memang a himbo)
  • Agents H&M? Really?
  • Agent High T is not exactly the coolest agent name ever.
  • Yeah, you don't have Liam Neeson in a movie like this without some weird twist about his character in the end.
  • Well of course agent so-and-so dedicated their whole life to the agency - their past lives and identities were erased upon signing up. WTFBBQ.
  • I'm so lazy, there's no way I would ever join MIB in real life.
  • I don't know if Pawny figurines are gonna fly off the shelves, but Kumail Nanjiani is pretty funny and most people were laughing at almost every thing Pawny says or does. But unlike Frank the pug, at least people aren't gonna rush out to adopt Pawnys.
If you've enjoyed the first movies and take them in the spirit they were meant to be taken in (as a fun romp), then you might enjoy this one. I thought it was a fun movie.

Now, to get Will Smith's first Men in Black theme song out of my head...
