Tales from the Scars

Got an opening night, early bird ticket to Tales from the Scars presented by Big Nose Productions. Only bought it online at Proticket because otherwise it was a waste of RM10 online transaction fee just to buy ONE ticket (I was also getting a ticket to the last MACC show in November).

Fast forward to opening night: I got there around 8 something and had collected my ticket, but by the time I was done getting a ticket to a different show being staged next week, doors were already open and people were lining up to go in cos it's free seating.
Ten intimate monologues, ten lives, ten itching scars waiting to be scratched. Raw, forthright, funny and dead-serious, join us this August as our nail penetrates under the scab, removing the dead skin of our scar, reaching the tender and raw part of our flesh. Experience the feeling of relief, pain and pleasure.
Saw that it was just one red chair on stage. I bought the ticket so long ago I forgot the show was gonna be all monologues: 10 characters, 10 monologues, and I want to say... not longer than 10 minutes each?  There were some familiar faces from past productions, but the biggest name (in some circles, anyway) in this production would be Chacko Vadaketh, whom they saved for last.

As you sit and listen to these people tell their "stories", these are not easy stories to tell even if it's not necessarily the performer's own. Themes range from love, death, religion...

If you're looking for a feel good show... this is not it. But don't let that stop you from going.
