Little Women

Second movie this week (Little Women), only because it's Wednesday. This time the screening room had more people, which is perhaps due to the fact that it was the only screening before 9 p.m.? (the other options were for after 9 p.m., which is kind of unacceptable for a movie over 2 hours long on a week night)

I never saw the previous big screen adaptations and I've not read the full length version of the book, either (does anyone remember those tiny, adbriged versions where there's an illustration every other page? That's how I've read some of the classics - I'm okay with not reading the unabridged versions at this point in my life). I've totally related to Jo March ever since I read it way back when and I still do now.

If nothing else, this is not a straightforward adaptation of the book, which I have to appreciate, but it was kind of hard to tell which was flashback and which was present time in the movie.
  • They really did a 180 on Amy, making her to be such a feminist?
  • I laughed so hard when Bob Odenkirk (as their dad) finally showed his face.
  • It's kinda weird thinking of Bob Odenkirk and Meryl Streep as siblings? Never mind that in the book she was the great grand aunt, not aunt per se.
  • Jo's feeling of loneliness in this movie totally struck a nerve. I don't think I was the only one that shed tears at that part. I didn't even cry when the sister died because it happened off screen and I already knew that part.
  • The guys in this movie is just too damn hot to be ignored, and by that I mean the guys playing both Jo and Meg's husbands.
They squeezed most of the book's major events in the run time, but even then I felt it was a little long.
