Ricksha, Bangsar

Since I was last in the area (which was awhile ago la), a couple new Indian food places opened up, closer to where the McD's is in Bangsar, away from the more familiar ones in the area like Nirwana and Devi's - Ricksha and Daddy Arumugam Recipe. I don't know how they ended up stacked on each other, but it happens.

See?

Seeing as the place downstairs looked a little busy, I decided to try upstairs - Ricksha. Walking in, the crowd already skewed a little younger (you need some knee fluid left to climb the stairs and I don't think all the old peepur downstairs are gonna do that) when I was there. You can browse the menu on a tablet.

The basic BLR set is RM15, which is kinda steep when you feel like anything more than RM8 was expensive.. (Yes, I'm aware of the overhead costs especially rental in that part of Bangsar). There's also parboiled rice if you're looking to eat slightly healthier, and at least the rice came in a seperate bowl so you can dish out as much as you want or not. On top of the usual dhal, fish and chicken curry there was also squid curry when I was there, so I had some.

Guess which one was the squid curry?
(I forgot liao)

If you're hoping for teh tarik to wash everything down, you're SOOL. The closest you can get is tea with cow's milk (RM7), which tasted fine without added sugar (I was sorely tempted to ask for some, but I feel like I might offend someone if I did). It's so Indian, the bru coffee comes in a smaller metal cup with a large saucer.

I didn't get anything else cos I was there alone and I didn't think I could finish what I already have (there's some items I could do without, but it was already down on the banana leaf before I could say anything) in front of me. Some of the other menu items seem intriguing, but not when I'm there by myself.

You know the place is run by young people when they also take e-wallet payments. It could also be a pandemic thing: reducing cash transactions, etc.

If nothing else, the service was ok, I felt (because I was the only solo Chinese diner there at the time that asked a lot of questions as to what some of the items were?). Food tasted ok for the most part, but I don't know about going back there any time soon by myself at peak lunch hour lah. I would try some of the other things, though.
