Week 27, 2021

As of Saturday, practically most of Selangor went from MCO to EMCO (stricter rules and actual 8 p.m. curfew); if they can barricade and put up barbed wire around the state like they do affected public housing areas, they probably would. I dunno if it's a public health and safety move or a political one by a ruling party no one voted for in the first place.

Yet, a lot of services are still not allowed to open.

  • Mother had a senior moment last week when she forgot to pull the parking brake and because the road was a little sloped, the car slid and hit a wall. Because of this damn MCO, car workshops are open (so you can still get a car serviced or fixed) but car paint and body service shops aren't allowed to open. Don't get me wrong, the car is still running (at the moment), but it's gonna be awhile before that car gets the cosmetic fix it needs.
  • On the plus side, if your driver's license or car road tax is expiring, enforcement is being relaxed cos JPJ not allowed to open AT ALL now. Before this, they only gave out phone numbers for people to call to make appointments cos they don't want to take walk-ins. WTFBBQ.
  • Funniest announcement this week: free street parking in KL until end of August. Sounds great in theory, but we all know that those spaces will be taken up by the people working in the area before anyone else can. Not to mention that people in Selangor can't (technically) cross into KL anyhow.
  • If I knew UNO was gonna be an esport in the future ah...
  • The hell exhibit (Chinese hell, not angmo hell) in Haw Par Villa has air conditioning now. There's a joke in there somewhere. I'm kinda amazed that admission is still free. I guess my share of Tiger Balm purchases over the years is helping?
  • Made another online Sephora order despite the fact that the last one from end of May finally got here about some days ago (if you're not keeping track: almost a whole calendar month later). I'm such a masochist. It's mostly because one of the things I wanted was included in the sale, so I pulled the trigger. At least I remembered to put the house address this time, but I also not holding my breath on getting it in under a couple of weeks.
  • I've also got another shopping experiment going on right now: I've ordered a boxful of Irvin's salted egg-flavoured products (cos got free DHL international economy shipping to Malaysia) and I'm waiting to see how long that takes (the FAQ says 14-30 days; which, going by the Sephora orders this pandemic, seems about right). Hopefully they're not too worse for wear by then. It's still better than me lugging several bags from Changi duty free lah, even if I get to save on GST that way.
