After several months, I finally collected the long overdue road tax for the car.
When I renewed back in April, it was around the time there was a road tax sticker shortage (something along those lines) and the release/renewal was being staggered. According to them, because the insurance and road tax expired in April, I could only get a new road tax around June? It's been awhile, so I forget. And then everything got shut down again and you can't even get those things done unless you're driving a company vehicle or do ridesharing; everyone else had to have a copy of their renewed insurance cover note and receipt in their car at all times just in case.
Several months of lockdown and loads of nonsense later, they reinstated the JPJ transactions both at the post offices and JPJ offices but you have to go online for an appointment as a form of crowd control. They were also ending the enforcement moratorium for people with expired drivers' licenses and road tax in September, which leaves a small window for people to sort that out.
As I renewed the road tax on JPJ's MySIKAP portal (I had wanted to pay by credit card and it was too expensive for me to pay out of pocket first at the post office, which only takes CASH), I managed to snag an appointment at the local JPJ office, the confirmation came by email.
I was a little early for my appointment, but decided to see if I could get in a little early. Showed the guy at the registration counter the email I printed out (don't start with me) and receipt and told him that I just want to print the road tax cos I already paid online. Got a queue number, went in and waited.
I gave the guy behind the counter my receipt and IC, I waited some minutes while he went off to print the road tax. When I finally got the road tax, I gave some sass about the long wait for the particular document.
If nothing else, it was definitely faster (in and out in less than 15 minutes), less crowded and chaotic than it would be in the before-times, but the months-long wait was annoying FOR SURE.
The only consolation was that I got to tarpau lunch from the old A&W drive thru nearby before heading back.
