My history with The Matrix franchise, to the best of my recollection, is like, I know I saw the last two movies in the cinema when they came out, but only saw the first one years after it first came out on home video and what not.
Found the earliest pre-9 p.m. screening for this (got 8.30 p.m., started around 8.45 p.m.) and settled in for The Matrix Resurrections.
- Wahlau, they really aged the shit out of Jada Pinkett Smith
- I'm with Laurence Fishburne - why didn't he come back as Morpheus? That said, they could've done worse for the character by having Yahya Abdul-Mateen II play him as a Morpheus 2.0.
- After all these years, it's still hard to get over the sight of the human powerbank farm.
- I'm kinda sad that Hugo Weaving didn't come back to play Smith, but Jonathan Groff as Smith 2.0 is just erm, damn ganas. You kinda have to feel bad (for Keanu) watching him beat the shit out of Keanu Reeves in that massive fight scene. Or is it worse watching 2 older guys doing the fight choreography they did?
- I laughed so hard when Chad the husband is the one that directed the John Wick movies (and was also Keanu's stunt double from the earlier Matrix movies).
- I knew NPH and Priyanka Chopra were in this (they hinted as much), but her role was like erm, ok, I guess...?
I haven't been watching this franchise since they came out or whenever, but this movie is kinda self-referential with all the archival footage and it feels a bit rehashed. Anyone remembered when The Matrix was assigned for certain college courses (specifically, philosophy courses)?
I thought it was fine; but I dunno about watching this as your first foray into the franchise.
