When they first announced the date for the KL show last December, I looked up the day of the week it was gonna be aaannddd it's on a Friday. It may have been ages since I last made my way downtown on a Friday night, but I wasn't looking forward to that.
Fast forward to today and of course it had been raining most of the afternoon. Which means traffic is gonna be more shit than usual for a Friday night.
Because the 'rents were also headed out for a dinner themselves, there wasn't going to be dinner at home anyway, so my own dinner was mostly old leftover pasta because I don't know what time I was gonna reach there, let alone consider the downstairs food court option at the convention centre. (There was also a RM88 pre-show buffet consisting of local dishes, but it's RM88 so no la).
I was on the road so long (over an hour - I managed to squeeze an episode of the NPR podcast How I Built This with the co-founder of Burt's Bees), it was almost 8.30 p.m., organisers have stopped trying to validate 3,000 e-tickets, security stopped giving a shit about water bottles and I waltzed in with my own bottle of water. There were some people wearing either orange polos and/or something that shade of orange. Props to the people who found that particular shade of orange polos to wear.

Security on the other side is still pretty strict

Because it had been so many months since I bought the ticket, I really had to ask an usher to help me find the seat cos I totally don't remember the general area of where I picked. If nothing else, at least the show sold out days, if not weeks before, so I would say it's beh pai la. Because it's a sold out show, there was no chance of free seat upgrade, so *whomp whomp*
I was not wrong when I figured that the show would start at "Malaysian 8.30 p.m." (aka 8.45 p.m.) and it started with Uncle Roger doing about half an hour of crowd work. He picked on a couple of Singaporeans (taking advantage of the exchange rate), random married Malay couple, some dude and a teenager who's there with his mother.

Then there was a 15 minute intermission, which I took to stretch my legs and checked out the merch table for a little bit. The cafe right outside the Plenary Hall was swamped by people. Line to the ladies were dreadful (luckily I already used the facilities before the show).
NGL, the merch was too rich for my blood (cheapest was the tote bag for RM100, t-shirts were RM150 [which is equivalent to how much I would've spent on concert t-shirts in the past], and sweatshirts were RM300). It was only after I saw the photo I took of the merch table I only realised that they also had the other t-shirt designs behind them, but oh well. (It would be too on the nose to wear them out of the house)
After the break, Nigel came on stage as himself and did about an hour long set. If you've heard both the Rice to Meet You and HAIYAA podcasts, some of the beats/bits would sound really familiar. His bit about the robustness of a Le Creuset was also kinda funny if you're of a certain age.
Because it's the hometown show, of course his parents were in attendance and he brought them up on stage for a hug and the crowd pic.

It was fine, I guess. If you've bought a ticket to this based on just the Uncle Roger videos alone, well.. joke's on you la.
