The 39 Steps

It's been awhile since I last saw a play in person.

When I heard that the same theatre company was gonna be restaging The 39 Steps at DPAC, I was like, ok...

It's a comedic take on a Alfred Hitchcock movie that's based on a novel of the same name.

When I went to the ticketing site, I noticed that the show starts at 7.30 p.m., which was (I admit) kinda unusually early for here, but okay. It only means that Friday night was out because there's no way in heck I was gonna make it there on time. And the weekday parking at Empire Damansara was still hourly, I was like, heck no, Saturday and flat rate parking it is LOL

Fast forward to last Saturday evening. By the time I got there (almost 7.30 p.m.), the doors were already open and everyone was getting seated. Figured it had to be free seating (because of the lack of seat selection during the ticket buying process), but had to confirm with the crew all the same.

It wasn't a full house, so I still had the luxury of picking a seat...which I didn't know was cold AF. I'm not one of those people who would typically bring outerwear or a scarf for warmth, but on that occasion I wished I had. There were also lots of expat families with young kids (in their [presumably] Sunday best) in attendance. I wonder if that's why the show time is at 7.30 p.m....?

I went in cold, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but the visual slapstick gags really got the kids going and laughing. That, and there was some running up and down the aisles that also got them riled up. I was also feeling a little too cold in my seat to get most of the plot properly, so luckily one can look it up..

It's a 2 hour show with a 10 minute intermission. The only good thing about the pre 8 p.m. start time is the show being done before 10 p.m., I guess.
