The Amateur

Went to watch this on a lark. Didn't think it was gonna be THAT good (it's been panned as such online anyway). I mean, grieving husband avenging his wife's death by hunting down the flers that killed her is getting to be such a trope nowadays. Oklah, this is technically a 2025 remake of a 1981 movie.

There was some people, mostly my age and up watching this. It's either this, or the Minecraft movie, so..

CIA analyst blackmails his employers into training him for field work necessary for his revenge.

  • Him being married to Rachel Brosnahan is so unlikely, but at least he's acting like he's the luckiest man alive for that..
  • Speaking of Rachel Brosnahan, I thought she was gonna be glorified cameo... but using her in flashbacks and visions was beh pai lah
  • Not sure how they got everyone they got to sign on to this, so I'm thinking it's a paycheque movie? Idk. Maybe. Allegedly.
  • Forgot that Caitriona Balfe was in this one until she showed her face 2/3 in, even though everyone's name was in the opening scene like an episode of a TV show... No idea what accent she was affecting?
  • Did not know that the director was mostly known for his TV work before this. Which kinda explains it - this felt like a TV movie?
  • Laurence Fishburne in this just gave me Morpheus vibes lah, let's be honest lol
  • Having Rami Malek be good with computers in this would remind some people of Mr Robot
  • The training montage was kinda cringe to watch. But at least he knew what he was good at (making IEDs, apparently) and put that to good use for the rest of the movie? I'm sure Rami Malek must be glad not to have to train so hard or whatever to be super buff and learn too many fight sequences.
  • You'd think he would be watching that lockpicking YouTube video BEFORE he tried to break in, and not mid-attempt.
NGL, this movie was a little funny in parts .

This would go down as one of the movies I might watch in a hotel room years after the fact, just long enough to see what I'd missed...
