Went to see the French movie with Angelina Jolie this morning cos it was a public holiday, and I had nothing else going on. I also was gonna spend Saturday morning watching The Sheep Detectives, so... yeah.
It was just me, and maybe 5 other people at the morning screening.
It's been awhile (or a first, I don't know) since I last saw a foreign language movie in the cinema. I wasn't sure how what's the ratio of French to English on this going in, but it probably feels like 60:40?
It's basically Angelina Jolie playing an American (who conveniently can speak French) indie film director who travels to Paris to shoot a vampire short for a fashion show, only to find out that she's got cancer while there, and has to grapple with all that while still having to work. The movie also focuses on the star of the short film, a fresh-faced Sudanese model, and a make up artist who is trying to be a memoirist on the side?
- I can only imagine Angelina Jolie reliving her cancer journey through her character...
- I don't know if the young man she tried to hook up with knew she got cancer, or if the Censorship Board's efforts in excising the sex and nudity made that more confusing.
