Book Darts

What exactly are book darts?

[from scottberkun.com's
blog post on the subject] "Book darts are small arrow shaped strips of metal that you can place on pages to mark a passage. They are easy to use, easy to remove, and do zero damage to books. It’s a great paper clip-esque design: minimal and clever."

They're useful for marking specific lines or passages in the book as opposed to using them as book marks, because once you stick them in they're pretty hard to remove willy nilly. The nice thing is you can leave it in the book when you put it away on the shelf and the book will stay flat.

I received 10 of the things as a gift from a fellow Bookcrosser katie1980 when she was here for a year for work. If it wasn't for her I would have no idea these things existed (seriously). I've only used one so far - and I think it's in a Potter book somewhere.

Last night I saw
this (pictured left) on the MPH website at mphonline.com: RM22 for 18 of the things, which IMO is pretty damn expensive for tiny pieces of metal.

There are a couple of sites online (bookdarts.com) and here selling them also, but they either don't ship overseas or (as usual) shipping cost is a bit too much for tiny pieces of metal.

[Here are Google's blog search results - takes some sifting, but they're mostly positive reviews from other bloggers who use them for their theses or other academic work]
