From Jalan Alor to Jalan Kejora??

DBKL changed the name of Jalan Alor (which is known for their stretch of hawker stalls) to Jalan Kejora over the weekend and people are not happy with it.

I've only been to Jalan Alor ONCE in my life, and I don't remember ordering or eating anything there at the time.

From the piece in The Star...

"Jalan Alor’s name was changed at the request of the National Economic Action Council following decisions made in its exco meeting.

With regard to that, DBKL’s Road Naming Committee concluded in its meeting that the name of Jalan Alor be changed to Jalan Kejora to go with other roads in the vicinity named after the stars.

The change is also to meet requirements under the road naming guidelines."

I can see where they're coming from about the name change, but I think that the locals will just keep referring to it as Jalan Alor only lah. (There are also petitions going on as a sign of protest).

"the old name of Jalan Alor will still be shown on the signage to prevent confusion."
