Was rudely awakened by the persistent honking, which annoyed me, but not before a nice, cooling spell of rain poured down an hour later, which peeved me even more. Argh - why didn't it rain when I was STILL sleeping? MCH.
Anyhow, saw them off and got the camera that I had been thinking of getting for weeks - the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7 that I paid RM1,500 (from the RRP of RM 1,599) and I got an extra 4GB card (as the guy at the shop promised an extra 8GB card, but settled on the second 4GB card instead) on top of the "free" 4GB card and hard case that came with the camera. Another plus was the extra year's standard warranty you get when you sign up for the e-Warranty on the Panasonic site. Which I could get now that I've backed out of the trip next week, hahaha.
(From the site...)25mm Wide-angle 12x Optical Zoom LEICA DC Lens with HD Movie Recording in AVCHD Lite and iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode
- 25mm Ultra Wide-angle 12x Optical Zoom LEICA DC Lens in a Compact Body
- HD Movie Recording in AVCHD Lite with Dolby Stereo Digital Creator
- Advanced iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode with Face Recognition and Movie iA Mode
- Large 3.0-inch, 460,000-dot High-resolution Intelligent LCD with Wide-viewing Angle
- Venus Engine HD with HDMI Compatibility and VIERA Link
It might be just me, but the only thing (really) that I didn't like was the new hardware to get used to - the SDHC cards, having to find another card reader that supports SDHC, the Li-ion battery which costs RM229 a pop. But at least it's not a Sony camera :P
Anyhoo, my bro might get a kick out of it and make more sense out of it than I would. I miss using the old film cameras (I still have mine from when I was in primary school, basically collecting dust now) - all you do is point and shoot. Oh, and hope for the best.
P.S. Also got a RM150 e-Voucher from Panasonic which I'll use to get a second battery. Only sensible thing, no?
