Genting Group CNY Luncheon

The whole family went up to First World Hotel in Genting for the Genting Group CNY luncheon (which the 'rents said the food was good, so fine). We left around 10 something and spent some time going through the First World Hotel parking lot, which is an experience I care not to repeat even though I wasn't the one driving.

Anyway, walked through the front entrance with the whole bunch of Genting execs greeting the arrivals. Soon as we got settled (giftbags contained two extra large oranges), I went to survey the buffet spread and dude, the selection was VAST (there were stations lined along the side of the room). There was...

Handmade noodles (which I didn't have)

Forgot this one

Had one of these just because... and also the actual raw oysters on ice at the other side of the room.

Scallops weren't too bad, but not a fan of the sauce

Durian tempura was not bad, but lost some of the cream filling cos it flowed out as I was biting into it.

(There are more pictures, but I dumped the lot on Facebook here). And those were just the ones I took before we even got to eat, else I wouldn't have a chance to once the mob gets to it.

Waited for at least an hour because they were waiting for the Health and Transport ministers to show up, toss some yee sang and also some lion dancing before the emcees gave the word to dig in.

Plenty of selection (Chinese, Malay, Indian, Western, etc), I mostly avoided stuff like chicken rice and roti canai (you got to be shitting me if you want me to go all the way up just for freaking chicken rice or roti canai, which, by the way, was made to order at its own station).

But I did have a crepe suzette (there was a station set up at the angmo dessert section), which I think would be better if there actually was booze in it, but I can't complain - good thing I didn't finish the whole portion myself.

For some reason, I wanted a go at the salad bar, but I never got round to it because I was stuffed by the time I had time for it.

My grouses:
  • Oysters were shelled, but not shucked, so had to dislodge the thing yourself before you could eat it.
  • Never got an angpow from the Genting Mrs Lim - Mum thinks it's cos they're size-ist and age-ist: if you're not actually a kid, you don't get one. Yerrr...
Washed everything down with a glass of ice three-layered tea (the new tea sensation from Sarawak which I always see banners of in some mamaks but never dared ordered myself). Not bad, but perhaps too sweet for me or must wait for the ice to melt a little more.

It wasn't too bad, I suppose...left around 1 something and only got home around 3 something because Dad had a meeting later in the day.
