[Sorry, no pictures - you people will just have to imagine it]
Been wanting to go to Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. for the longest time, but had no reason to go (not by myself, anyway)... until Groupon Malaysia had a deal awhile back where they were selling RM100 cash vouchers for half price. After deciding on which outlet to redeem from (you had to pick when you buy), I settled on Citta Mall because parking was free, and I figured the one at The Curve might be a little crowded and parking also not free. Several hundred (if not thousands) Groupons were sold.
[If you didn't know, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. is the theme restaurant based on the movie Forrest Gump - you can see stuff from the movie in the decor and it's playing on a loop there]
One of the caveats of the Groupon was that it can't be redeemed on both the eve of and on public holidays, and it's only valid until the end of the month. After taking out the public holidays this month, only managed to go on Friday the 16th with the family as it was neither the eve of or a public holiday, Mum wasn't making dinner and had wanted to eat out anyway, and the sibling was back for his term break.
There was a line at the door because they have to verify the Groupon serial number against their list. Because it was about 7 something in the p.m., we got a table next to the kitchen door, which wasn't great but could be worse :P
Ordered the Shrimper's Heaven, Mama's Southern Fried Chicken, a regular portion of BBQ Beef Back Ribs, and a Caesar salad. Barely any room on the table when all the food came at once.
- The prawns in the Shrimper's Heaven was fresh, but I could do without some of the accompanying dipping sauces. That's just me.
- Love the mash potato that came with the fried chicken.
- Didn't like the coleslaw because of the pronounced presence of celery - that's a personal thing.
- Ribs were really tender.
- The fries really held up - they were still crunchy after sitting on the plates for awhile.
Mum and I had the Speckled Lemonade (with blueberries which she found too tart) and the Mango Sparkler (delicious) respectively. Dad ordered a Tiger that came in a weird looking frosted vessel, which was selling at the exit gift shop for over RM40. With all that food, the bill went double over the cost of RM100 cash voucher, the balance I'm glad I didn't have to pay for :P
Service was hit and miss - happy that all the food came at once pretty quickly (well, I was busy with the free Wi-Fi doing Foursquare checkins), but having to tell several people that I needed a refill on the Mango Sparkler (free refills, mah) and waiting for what seems forever for it was a bit of a pain. To be fair, it was during dinner rush, so I don't know.
