I had heard about Coldplay's Live 2012 (the concert film/live album) release, but I didn't know there was gonna be a one-night only cinematic event going on around the planet on 13th November. Nor did I know that there'd be screenings happening right here in Malaysia (three cinemas in the whole country, all in the Klang Valley with two screening times of 7 and 9 p.m.) until GSC announced it on social media. I figured I'd go see this only because I know I'm not about to get the actual DVD in question. And it was a public holiday (Deepavali).
Paid the RM11.50 (plus online transaction fee) when they first released the tickets for sale for the 9.40 p.m. screening at the second home cineplex. For the price at the very least it was in 2D (HD), so no complaints there. I also wasn't expecting the room to be packed - either there were more Coldplay fans here than I thought, or people had nothing better to do on a public holiday. There were even families present - parents bringing their kids to see this. Whoda thunk.
I didn't understand why it was rated P13 (parental guidance for kids under 13) until I hear the F-bombs from Mr Martin. Now we know why.
I thought the movie was alright - I liked the voiceovers the band did about stuff going on behind the scenes, and some of the songs (Charlie Brown) where the place went dark, only to be lit up by the Xylobands like a really frenetic disco. I don't know if it was the time of day or shyness, but the room didn't exactly go crazy. I don't know about anyone else, but if I got a Xyloband, I would definitely keep it, are you kidding me?! I would be devastated if I didn't get one.
The only reason why I would bother getting the DVD is if I was at any of the shows highlighted here, which I was not.
