Kavin Jay - Let's Get Ready to Grumble

Got an early bird ticket because it was RM40 and I didn't really want to pay RM70 if I can help it.

One of the more unusual things is that the show start time was at 8 PM. Which is fine I guess because it's a Saturday night so you can't use rush hour traffic as an excuse.

I knew that the show didn't sell out because tickets were still being pushed in the days leading up to the event. Anyone who got the cheaper tickets lucked out and didn't have to sit upstairs.

Anyhow, got there early enough (before 8 p.m.) and managed to pick a seat I'm okay with. In retrospect, I should've told the usher that I would rather pick my own seat than have them suggest where I should sit because, #shortpeopleproblems and also, not my first time there, not by a long shot. Also spotted some other comics showing their support by showing up.

First opening act was YouTube-r Harvinth Skin (I had to look him up because I don't have the energy to give a damn who the prominent YouTube-rs are; you can also look him up, I'm not about to link him), who is not a standup comic by any means, did a rambling rant about why he hates cats which was probably 10, 15 minutes long? Didn't really laugh during his set.

Next, it was Mad Sabah who did his 20 minutes (?) set in Malay, which puts the non-Malaysian audience members out of the loop because his set is funny AF... if you haven't heard it before. It's mostly about him growing up in the pendalaman back in Sabah. I'm kinda glad the set was slightly different.

By the time Kavin came on, it was about 10 to 9 p.m. (maybe?) and spent almost 15 minutes just on crowd work. After that, he did almost an hour where he grumbled (hence the title) about being on keto (his bit about almond mylk was funny AF), the NUMEROUS roundabouts in Shah Alam (really), Shah Alam the place, bizzare menu items at the mamak (roti Osama?), weird Malaysian town names, etc. I laughed til I cried. Anyone else who dunno the Malaysian references are SOOL.

Maybe because I tend to enjoy the grumpy comedians (cos I also grumpy AF), I thought it was a fun show. The show was also done before 10 p.m., which was pretty early. Took the chance to cabut early.

PS. If you want to heckle a comedian, sit in the first few rows. Don't yell from the back of the room.
