Pandemic-era trip to IKEA

Went to the local IKEA for the first time this pandemic to check out the sale.

They've really covered all their bases with regards to the SOP: just about every way you can get into IKEA, there's a thermal screening station - the parking lot, other side of the mall, the street...

They've also added a couple more shortcuts on the floor, which was ok.

The takeaway kiosk downstairs is still open, but only selling items like hot dogs, curry puffs, etc. The public-access drink and soft serve dispensers are closed.

It's the only time my hoarding of the IKEA hot drink paper cups came in handy: pre-pandemic, you get two paper cups if you flash your member card downstairs but you have to grab the small white cup upstairs in the restaurant for the members' free hot drinks. Because of the pandemic, upstairs also using disposable cups now, but there's an employee at the beverage station now, so you can't slip a soft drink or whatever into the paper cup. There's also a second temperature screening at the restaurant. I didn't even end up eating there.

You bet your butts I had some IKEA paper cups in the glove compartment in case I wanted a drink but didn't want to line up for the cups. So ya, I had one in my bag.

Despite the PA reminders about how kids (under-12) and seniors above 65 are not allowed in IKEA, there were still plenty of elderly people in the store.

There wasn't anything I want that was on sale, so I got more scented tealight candles for the validated parking. I got lucky in that a cashier was just starting her register as I was ready to leave, so I was her first customer (the lines at other registers were kinda long for my one item).
