This was the Penang production that got shutdown after Muslim NGOs protested when it was first known as Sex in Georgetown City. So when they announced that there was going to be an online screening of the show over the Christmas weekend, I say why not. It was only RM20 - cheaper than an actual ticket, not to mention the additional travel cost to Penang.
If you've seen past Big Nose Production productions (like the Tales in the Bedroom series), it's the same format: ten 10-minute plays set in bedrooms.
Love in Georgetown City is a collection of ten raunchy, heart-warming and thought- provoking tales featuring one night stands, unconventional sex therapy, sexless marriage, office fling, extra-marital affairs, teen pregnancy, paedophilia, decadence of the youth, and mixed race relationships in a hypocritical society.
Some of the plays I feel like I've seen in past productions, so I won't go on about those. The ones I've not seen I thought were pretty entertaining. There was even a callback in the last piece where characters from an earlier piece showed up, haha.
- Either Penang roadsweepers make REALLY good money, or that's one cheap sex worker?
- I know it's just fiction, but I've never encountered such a chatty masseuse auntie before. Or maybe I have... RM40 for foot massage seems standard LOL
