Sigur R贸s - 2022 World Tour, The Star Theatre, Singapore

It's been almost 10 years since I last saw them close out Urbanscapes in PJ, sitting on a muddy field and getting bug bites. I wasn't entirely certain that I wanted to go. But once I was 90% set on going (got to use the PTO anyhow), every thing was kinda last minute - ticket, flights, accommodation - and also hoping that I don't get covid (again). Because it's Sigur R贸s and let's face it, they're not much to look at, decided on the cheapest ticket in the nosebleed seating.

Because the show wasn't entirely sold out, I got an email (I can't be the only one) about them closing off seating sections or whatever, moving to "better" seats. Personally I would be more excited if they moved us a ticket level, so ehh...馃し

The last time I was in this neck of the woods was back in 2017, so it's been awhile.

Anyhow, first line of screening was the vax status check. I had already downloaded and activated the TraceTogether app like they asked, but the stupid otter didn't show its stupid face and my vax status wasn't updated on there until waaaay later. Luckily they had a plan, which was to have another person "manually" verify my vax status by checking both vax cert and photo ID (which as a tourist, is at least your passport - not sure if I could pull off showing them my Malaysian IC or driver's license). Luckily I still had the soft copy of the vax cert on the phone when I realised I didn't bring the hardcopy with me to the show, and my passport.

The bag check wasn't as bad as I thought - the makcik saw my bottle in the bag but because it's not a disposable one, so we both said nothing and let me through.

Merch: Kinda sad. The tour date one sold out pretty quickly (or people are buying to sell later on Carousell?), leaving with this one or this one. All $50 each. Poster was $30.

The ascent to the nosebleeds was up 4 escalators (so the usher uncle was saying - with some glee in his tone - when I showed him my ticket. Yes, I also printed the ticket because stupid place got no Wi-Fi and I wasn't in the mood for showing the auntie uncle the soft copy on the phone).

Only slightly better nosebleed seats?

One of the things I hate about this blasted place is the lack of public Wi-Fi so that I was falling asleep from exhaustion and boredom. Also noticed that it was damn stuffy up in the nosebleeds too.

The show went on for at least 2 hours; and there was also a 20 minute intermission, whereby I took the opportunity to go back downstairs from the nosebleeds to get a poster, use the bathroom and back in the my seat before the second half, which was not bad for how tired I was. Most of the set list was familiar to me (but couldn't tell you the track name or album it came from off the top of my head then), but it was mostly from the ( ) album. There were signs around about the smoke and strobe lighting - the place was so smoky, it's not funny. Show was okay; too tired to really get into it.

Sigur R贸s Setlist The Star Theatre, Singapore, Singapore, World Tour 2022

Because I didn't want to change lines too many times (if I were to stick to riding the MRT), I decided to look at the thing at the station that tells you which buses to take to get to other MRT stations and rode the #14 back to Bencoolen area. Man, it was the most scenic bus ride I've had in recent memory. Which was fine, considering how tired I was.

By the time I got back to the hotel, it was almost midnight. Got a bottle of 100 Plus from the nearby convenience store to wash down the dinner leftovers (a box of roasted pork knuckle with cubed roasted potatoes I got earlier from the Cold Storage in Plaza Singapura), showered for bed, took a sleep aid and 1st gen antihistamine and tried to hit the sack. (Still woke up a few hours later for some reason)

PS. I wonder if them announcing their world tour had anything to do with their tax troubles...?

PPS. NGL, it's always kinda jarring to see uncle auntie working the somewhat menial jobs here - event ushers, cashiers, etc.
