Saw an IG post about a mass training for CPR and AED use awhile back (in February, I'm gonna say?) that was gonna be happening in Megah Rise in April. Took a wild guess on the online form as to when I'll be free on that day and picked the second to last time slot for it on the off chance that I might not make it earlier.
I wrote it down in a planner to remind myself of the date, but I kinda spaced out on the time. Lucky the organisers sent a reminder email some days before.
I was kinda right - on the day itself, I thought it was a good idea to go catch a movie, sign up for something else, and then this to cap the day. In the lead up to the day I think instructions were that we're supposed to be there an hour before our time slot to register, etc. I only got there about half past the hour cos I was looking for (free) street parking outside (I still refuse to pay the mall parking, especially if I don't have to).
As per instructions, I went up to the first floor (no line, just waltzed in), registered (my details were on the first page of their list, so it wasn't that hard), got a wrist band, walking past a group collecting their certs and goodie bags on the second floor.
Made my way upstairs to the holding area on the third floor. Did not wait too long, probably less than 20 minutes? LOL

Stamp card for them to make sure you did not FFK |

Holding area - the president of the Penang Heart Safe Society (PHSS) and Malaysian Resuscitation Association (MyRES) was addressing the crowd/vamping/stalling while they reset things inside

Everyone was assured that we're getting the hands-only training, and no mouth-to-mouth action was involved. Was told that you could do mouth-to-mouth if you know the person, but...nah.
Apparently you can find where the AEDs are on Google Maps, but when I last looked, there's plenty in Penang where things kicked off.
Once inside, they stamped the card one time (first of 3) and split everyone into groups of five. I ended up with a couple and a mother-daughter pair. Now I understand why the long pants in the instructions. Turns out the mother of the group is a doctor, so she also made things interesting with her medical perspective for the rest of us.
I think I was the only one of us with the most 3 8/pertinent questions, like the odds of breaking ribs, etc. The guy training us confirmed that you can do chest compressions to Bee Gees' Stayin' Alive. There's also a playlist if you wanna look, but you know..
The hour went by pretty quickly. They split everyone into small groups so that everyone could have a go with the dummy and the AED. The strength needed to press 5 cm deep for chest compressions was no joke; no wonder the instructions for laypeople are to do it for 2 minutes or until they're tired. (Apparently healthcare professionals got different set of instructions hor). The AED is pretty self explanatory once you know what's going on in there. And you're supposed to use one hand on kids and 2 fingers on infants.
NGL, the training is pretty informative, but I can't help but think surely the instructions can't the same for ladies and the erm, boobage? Idk. Even the dummies were male dummies.
Rest of the card was stamped on the way out, went downstairs to collect the cert and goodie bag filled with healthy food items.. the pack of multigrain soy milk was what made it hefty.

At least didn't need to buy bread LOL |
Kinda surprised I still managed to retain the information even with a headache going on...
