It had been a few years ago when I saw this tiny little shop in Amcorp which sold brand new (remaindered) books at the "wah-so-cheap-one" prices. There wasn't a lot of room to walk around, let alone browse comfortably. Being the sucker for cheap books that I am, I keep going back.
Not long after that, that little shop closed because they were moving to bigger premises in Amcorp, taking over the space that KFC used to occupy (I am of that age where I remember things like this) on the highest floor, the first place you see when you get off the escalator. You can't really get better foot traffic than that.
It was bigger, warmer and obviously, had more books to choose from. The size was just nice in a way that it's not overwhelming or intimidating to the casual browser.
It was BookXcess - one of PJ's greatest sources for books.
I've gotten great finds and discovered authors I otherwise would not pay full retail price for. I might not have found anything half the time, but when I do, they're usually gems. And with the cheaper prices, I could give them away or bookcross them when I'm done with them without feeling the pinch too much.
Since then, it's improved leaps and bounds and have joined the social media revolution - on Twitter, Facebook and blog.
Bookxcess, may you guys (in the words of Mr Spock) live long and prosper.
