Week 22, 2021

Back to the bananas weather again this week: when it's hot, it's hot as balls; when it rains, it POURS kinda weather.

And they announced another lockdown while we're in the middle of (technically) a lockdown, so a lockdown-ception? It was also announced that we're going back to a erm, total 2-week lockdown starting next month. So this weekend people have been going nuts panic buying (?) stuff (again), getting hair cuts, cars washed, etc and traffic is kinda nuts too. And there's also other assholes who are attempting to leave town (again) cos of the upcoming shutdown. "Oh, FFS" doesn't even cover it. I can barely keep track.

Because everything closes at 8 p.m. now, I can't do my weeknight post-dinner outings to places I refuse to pay weekend parking for.

Case numbers are going up. Some say it's from the state-sponsored (complimentary) mass screening events, others say it's from the people who somehow managed to sneak past the police roadblocks, etc to die die (sic) celebrate Raya despite being told not to go visiting other houses for Raya, the terawih clusters, etc.

  • If you're a mall meanderer likes me, the new 2 hour limit on mall outings is gonna be quite the cardio workout. But it only works for smaller neighbourhood malls and not the bigger malls, unless you really planned your errands/shopping list down to a tee, which I'm not always that organised for.

As if the mall security don't have enough to do - not only do they have to make sure you scan the contact tracing QR, but they also have to see your profile to make sure you're either Low Risk or Casual Contact or worse (Close Contact/Suspected Case/PUI/etc). Which begs the question: how the hell did the Close Contact, etc people gone around unnoticed before this?
  • People had a eventful Vesak day as the under-60 demographic tried to get their hands on a Astra Zeneca vaccine appointment like they're highly sought after concert tickets. After numerous complaints about the site crapping out because they allegedly cheaped out on the backend or something (which I can't explain myself), they decided to put the AZ vaccine into the regular immunisation program along with the rest.
  • Biggest LRT accident in their history happened this week as one occupied train hit an empty train? Don't get me started on the sad RM1000 compensation to the affected passengers cos we all know the medical costs are probably gonna be way more than that; they can probably sue and get more, if they're so inclined.

I dunno if TPTB stupid or what, but halving the train capacity and frequency is not helping to slow the spread cos people will be desperate to squeeze into any train that comes along just to get to work. There's also positive cases reported from this and people who were travelling the same time and route they were on are urged to go for screening.
  • After a pandemic delay, the F.R.I.E.N.D.S. reunion special on HBO Max finally happened. I dunno if I'll ever watch it.
  • With the American TV season wrapping up, I have been banking unwatched episodes of various shows cos the other shows I watch are also going on Memorial Day breaks.
